To recognize Hispanic Heritage Month, which takes place September 15 – October 15 each year, Ingersoll Rand’s HOLA (Hispanic/Latinx Organization for Leadership and Advancement) Inclusion Group, committed to fostering inspired teams and developing the next generation of global business leaders, is celebrating the rich combination of cultures, traditions and contributions from Hispanics across the globe. The latest installment of the “Inspiring Ownership” video series featured a conversation with Hispanic leaders on Ingersoll Rand’s Board of Directors.
Vicente Reynal, president and chief executive officer of Ingersoll Rand, and Tony L. White, retired chairman, president and chief executive officer, Applied Biosystems Inc., met virtually with members of HOLA to discuss their sense of pride and appreciation of family, the impact that their cultural backgrounds had on their leadership and their journey to success.
Watch this highlights video to see some of the inspiring moments shared during the discussion with Santiago Arias Duval, HOLA executive sponsor, and Hortencia Zamora and Oscar Lang from the HOLA steering committee. Enjoy detailed discussions about mentoring and career turning points, leadership skills and managing unconscious bias.
Vicente shared his decision to take a role that enabled him to learn about managing people and supporting teams. “People care about how you will make their lives better at work,” Vicente said. Tony echoed this sentiment, stating, “A leader to me is someone who can build a consensus.”
Both leaders reflected on their Hispanic heritage during the discussion. “Hispanic” refers to people who speak Spanish and/or are descended from Spanish-speaking populations. “Latino” (or Latina or Latinx), refers to people who are from or descended from people from Latin America. Vicente and Tony reflected on culture, language and favorite foods that define their Hispanic heritage.
