Petrobras, a Brazilian energy company that specializes in constructing FPSOs for offshore extraction operation projects was seeking a solution to significantly reduce their FPSO’s flare emissions. They reached out to GARO through SBM Offshore; the EPC Company involved in an existing Petrobras FPSO construction project.

What is an FPSO?

An FPSO is a floating production system that transports fluids and gasses from subsea reservoirs with the use of risers, and then filters them of impurities to produce crude oil, natural gas, or water using surface production facilities.

ARO became involved in the project from the FEED phase until the selection of the right technology. Through a very collaborative effort, GARO’s very compact design composed of two Nash model XL-500 liquid ring compressors, including ancillaries and FGR skids was chosen.

FPSO Almirante Tamandaré FPSO will be deployed at the Búzios field in the Santos Basin approximately 180 kilometres offshore Rio de Janeiro in Brazil. Final delivery of the FPSO is expected in the second half of 2024.

The project is a significant strategic milestone since it opened a new collaborative path with SBM Offshore that will lead to future FPSO projects for GARO.
