One of the largest privately-owned off-shore exploration and production companies in the United States was seeking a contractor to provide a reliable and efficient supply of compressed air for their Floating Production System (FPS) located off the Gulf of Mexico.
Their requirements included the supply of Plant Air, Instrument Air, as well as the delivery of 97% Purity Nitrogen and 99.999% Purity Nitrogen to be utilized for crude extraction and production-related processes.
Often in collaboration with Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) for their Off-shore Engineering, Procurement, Construction, Installation and Commissioning (EPCIC) contracts, the company again looked to the Offshore and Engineering division of HHI for a solution.
Hyundai’s off-shore unit has successfully completed more than 170 projects including over 100 EPCIC projects on a turn-key basis and has been recognized as one of the most experienced and advanced offshore yards in the world.
Developing a Specialized SolutionOur engineers approached the development stage of this complicated project with the customer in mind by involving them at every step of the process. Once feedback was received, our engineers would return to the drawing board and alter the design, returning it to the customer for feedback. Once approval was received, a prototype was constructed to be subjected for more testing.
The solution involved the following state-of the- art devices and accessories from Ingersoll Rand’s stable of high quality components; all incorporated into one multi-use package:
The design of the all-in-one package was a challenge, but Ingersoll Rand’s engineers were up to the task and provided a fully functional multi-utility compressed air platform that the client desired. This allowed Ingersoll Rand’s engineers to showcase their ability to go that extra mile to customize a solution to fulfill the complicated, but necessary requirements.
